Located in the centre of Namur, the capital of Wallonia, the Haute Ecole d'Enseignement de Namur- IESN [College of Higher Education of Namur-BAC +3] was created in 1968. At that time the college was called the Institut Technique Supérieur de Namur (ITSN) and it organised a single section in Control Engineering for 30 students . . .
On the following year, a second section was opened : the "graduat" [3-year degree] in Computer Science. In 1971, the ITSN became the IESN. Two new sections were set up : Law (1973) and Marketing (1974). In 1975, the IESN was installed in the buildings which it still occupies today and which it has enlarged in three successive phases (1987, 1995, 2003). Since the mid-1980's, the following sections have been opened :
Family and social economics (1984);
Accounting, taxation option (1988);
Accounting, management option (2000);

The Student Association
The Student Association (ADE) was created in 1994 by the students of the IESN in order to promote students’ participation. It was one of the first student association in an institute of higher education.
Further to the creation of the Hautes Ecoles in 1995, the A.D.E. has become the Student Board, such as recognized by the Government of the French-speaking Community and the authorities of the Haute Ecole d’Enseignement Supérieur de Namur (IESN).
Each year, the Student Association takes part in the good management of the IESN through its participation organs, that is to say, the management organ, the social board, the educational board. The A.D.E. also appoints the student members sitting in the various department boards as well as in section boards. This appointment is carried out through elections within each section at the beginning of the month of October.
The members of the Student Board and therefore the A.D.E. are elected each year towards the month of April.

Support for students
For several years, the Institute has introduced sessions of educational support at the level of the first years. These sessions aim at helping students to ensure smooth transition between the secondary school and the institute of higher education.
The subjects traditionally tackled by the teachers of each session in charge of the support are how to take notes, the working method, the drafting of syntheses and summaries and the preparation for examinations.
Moreover, Anne Vause, educational adviser, is at the disposal of students with difficulties. Her role is mainly to bring help to students meeting difficulties to find an appropriate working method. Students can also consult her for orientation problems.
With her degree of psychologist, she can also receive students with more personal problems, listen to them and try to find a solution with them. Anne Vause is also in charge of the Rebond training for the IESN.

The Technofutur project
The Haute Ecole IESN has concluded an agreement with the regional centre of expertise “TECHNOFUTUR” in order to facilitate the continuing training of its teachers and students.
This agreement comes within the context of the cooperation agreement on crossed policies aimed at improving the links between the initial education and the vocational training. Training sessions have therefore been organized within the institute itself for a group of teachers. On-line training sessions are also accessible through the website of the centre of expertise “Technofutur”.

Partnership with Cisco System
The High School IESN collaborates with the company Cisco System, one of the world leaders in the computer network technology, in the organization and development, at the Haute Ecole IESN, of the first Walloon regional academy Cisco.
In an even more competitive world, where the information mobility has become a capital strategic factor for each company, the Haute Ecole IESN gives the opportunity to its students in computer sciences and systems (option: computer technology) to attend on-line training courses and laboratories on data network technology. So, the student will have the possibility, regardless of his/her school education, to get the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification, which is internationally recognized by the business world.

Hetice
The “Form@Hetice” project, co-financed by the European Social Fund, enables the Haute Ecole IESN to promote the search for new educational aids related to the new information and communication technologies.
The continuing training of teachers is therefore ensured.
These refresher courses approach the new information and communication technologies from three angles of their applications in teaching processes:
The on-lining of courses
The on-line supervision of training periods
The educational methods for big groups
